About

This is my first blog. Let’s see where it takes us. Macuti is the traditional building material for roofs in the part of Ilha de Moçambique where most of the inhabitants live. I am studying the changing popular architecture in the area and the development of a strategy for balancing conservation and sustainable development in Mozambique’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I am an Architect and PhD Candidate at the Royal Academy School of Architecture, Copenhagen, 2011-2013. Affiliated with Faculdade de Arquitecture e Planeamento Físico, Eduardo Mondlane University, Maputo, and Gabinete de Conservação da Ilha de Moçambique. The research is funded by the Danish Council for Independent Research, Humanities.
